Case #100: The woman with the rash


It’s been a while since the last clinical scenario was released here. I am pleased to announce that this is the 100th article of ‘patient of the week’. (Now I can write a book!).

A young woman presents with 5 days history of fever with myalgia. By the time of admission, she has developed a mildly itchy rash and her fever has subsided. Her CBC showed leucopenia and thrombocytopenia.

Case #96: After the fight


This man who is in his mid-twenties got into a fight with his spouse earlier in the day and was admitted via the ED for alleged ingestion of a liquid suspected to a herbicide.

Case #94: Suddenly breathless


This 24 year old woman felt an uneasy discomfort on the left side of her chest from morning which worsened progressively. By noon, she decided to go to the hospital. When she presented to the hospital, she was in distress, having suddenly developed acute breathlessness. She collapsed and was resuscitated requiring mechanical ventilation.

This Xray was taken a short while before she collapsed.

Case #93: The man with shortness of breath


This is the chest radiograph of a young man with HIV. He complains of progressively worsening shortness of breath of 3 weeks duration with occasional low grade fever. On examination, he is tachypnoeic, afebrile, and auscultation of the lungs reveals occasional scattered crepitations. His oxygen saturation on room air is 72%.
