hi there, got couple of question in mind.here goes..
1.in ct scan of pt. with extradural hematoma,do you actually see feature like blood don’t cross suture & blood cross dural attachment.
2.feature to identify subdural hematoma, are basically the crescentic -shaped hematoma.so question here is ,why is it that shape and not like that seen in extadural hematoma(elliptical)
    think that is all. thanks

My wife had an Xray of Lumbosacral Spine,Pelvis and Left Hip on 10 Jan 2008 as an investigation to a complaint of excrusiating pain down the left leg and groin area. It was declared reasonable normal and fisio, and anti inflamatory meds were sugested. After 6 sesions the pain were worse and she could not (did not want to go any more)On 05 Feb 2008 (4 weeks later) a CT of the pelvis showed a fracture of the Superior and Inferior Pubic Rami on the Left side. I have a CD of the 10 Jan xrays and printouts of the CT of 5 Feb which I would like to Mail you for comments. HOW did they miss this on 10 Jan. I have a quicker mail address at borrie@ultrapack.co.za
Thank you for a fabulous website. I am a well read registered engineering technician.

    Dear Desperado,

Ah, semantics. Don’t you just love or hate them. Anyway, to your questions:

    1. I don’t think there are any differences between the two. However, often times, the diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension are done clinically without confirming with either an ECHO or better still by measuring the actual pulmonary wedge pressure using a Swan Ganz catheter.

    2. Cor pulmonale by definition, as you have said is heart failure (specifically the right side) secondary to a lung pathology; so you are right.

    3. And therefore it would be incorrect to use the term to describe Eisenmenger Syndrome.

    Hope this helps.

    Dear Dr Jimbo,

some burning question regarding a patient that i encounter. Jus wan to know
1.whther there is a difference in pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary arterial hypertension.
2.Corpulmonale is right heart failure that is caused by chronic pulmonaty hypertension (without hheart condition that giving rise to the heart failure.. this is wat i understand so far)
    3. Thus, if the patient has ASD complicating with Eisenmenger complx ( reversal of shunt) leading to pulmonary hypertension, and developed RHF, it the term cor pulmonale can be used?
    Thanks a lot.
