Stereotyped

Yesterday, I met a patient in the ward who, in my opinion, is a racist prick (for lack of a better word). I am not sure if his attitude was from his lack of education or simply his gray matter cannot accept the fact that people cannot be catergorized into black or white.

Allow me to elaborate.

While doing the night rounds, I was brought to see a Malay man who was admitted for chest pain. He was cheerful when I met him and he told me that he no longer has any more chest pain.

Attempting to jest, I started the conversation below (translated from Malay)

Me: Sure you did not have chest pain because of watching football?(I thought the FIFA World Cup would be a good conversation starter)
Him: Of course not, I am a kampung man. I don’t watch football because I do not gamble. I am not like you Chinese people. 100% of you gamble!
Me: Oh, in that case, I am glad I do not gamble. Maybe I am not Chinese then
Him: Don’t tell me you never gamble even once before? You Chinese all gamble!!

Truth be told, I was quite miffed with his statements. First some uncouth politician called my ancestors ‘prostitutes‘ and got away with it and now this self righteous prick calls my entire race ‘gamblers’ – simply because lately some one in the government attempted to legalize sports betting (and in the process reap millions in kickback) and then say they do it because the Chinese wants it. (If this blog isn’t relatively ‘clean’, I would have used some expletives). Maybe I will just say ‘Niamah’!!!

I briefly told the house officer what to do and walked away.

He has a disease I cannot cure.

If the kampungs are filled with these self-righteous holier-than-thou creatures, then there is no hope for this country and definitely no future for me and my so proclaimed whore-descended-gamblers race.
