Last week Jimbo finally did what he should have done a long time ago: Get rid if his Panasonic Lumix DMC-F6 camera and replace it with a Canon IXUS.
Jimbo bought the the former just before his trip to Salzburg, because his old Canon IXUS40 became dysfunctional. It was the wrong decision. The pictures taken at Salzburg with the Lumix were less than satisfactory and one time, an entire 3 hours worth of photos taken on a train between Salzburg to Munich was lost unexpectedly. Sigh…
Things came to a boil in the last Ledang climb where 80% of the photos Jimbo took turned out blurry and bad. The ‘point and shoot’ was just too slow and Jimbo found he could not maneuver the camera with just one hand (it’s handy while mountain climbing coz the other hand would be hanging on to a branch or a rope for support!)
And so, last week, Jimbo risk starving the entire family for a month by buying this little baby here:
Compared to the IXUS 40 that he used to own, the IXUS 80 IS is merely a slightly glorified version ~ bigger screen, nicer color, 8 MP compared to 4 MP, etc etc.
But it’s just nice for Jimbo. It nestles in his palm like a little baby and more importantly, it can do what the Lumix could not do, take Macro shots like these (even with one hand!):

The beginning of a bamboo shoot.
The inside of an orchid, which looks suspiciously like male gonads! LOL!
Jimbo thinks Panasonic should just stick to making air conditioners.
