Rapist on the loose!
I got a call from the medical officer on call, just before I left for lunch last Friday.
“Dr. J, I am attending to a patient who was allegedly raped!”
And there I was, on the other end, thinking to myself, why is she calling me regarding a rape case. I certainly am not an expert in this subject!
“The alleged rapist was just released from jail!”
A sick feeling came upon me…
“And that guy told the police who caught him that he is HIV+!”
Oh God! I felt revulsion within me.
Here is a guy who has just walked out of prison, knows he is HIV+ (and in all likelihood also have Hepatitis B or C) and what does he do to celebrate his freedom? He goes and rape a woman!
Blardy idiot!
“Is there any role for PEP?”, asked the MO. (PEP: Post exposure prophylaxis)
I answered in the affirmative and fixed an appointment to see the victim in my clinic next Friday.
The sick thing is, what if the rapist is brought to see me in my clinic for treatment?
The Hippocratic oath dictates that I should treat him.
My inner being tells me to castrate him and feed it to the dogs.
Wed, 101208 @ 0700; in KL for a workshop.
