The 5th Chamber
Yesterday, at the AIDS memorial day event in KL, some one approached me while we were waiting for the event to start.
Him: “Hi, Dr. J. You are Dr. J right?”
Me: “Hi! And you are?” (my eyes rapidly scanning his name tag to make out his name).
It took me a while to place him and then I remembered. He was one of the many pharmaceutical reps I’d met at the 1st National AIDS Conference in KL last year.
Me: “How are you, Mr. H?” (getting warmed up to indulge in a bit of small talk)
Him: “You came all the way just to attend this event?”
Me: “Yeah, I feel that I should come, just to show support.”
Him: “You know something? In all my years of working in this line, I noticed doctors who choose this line of work are different from other doctors.”
Me: “Is it? How so?”
Him: “Your hearts are different.”
Wanting to humour him, I said:
“Yeah, we have 5 chambers in our hearts instead of the usual 4.”
Surprisingly he agreed with me!
The he said:
“You know what’s the name of the 5th chamber?”
Me: “What?”
Him: “It’s called ‘COMPASSION’!”
Now isn’t that a heart warming compliment?
