Cutting Baby

May 8, 2008 2 comments

I finally finished marking all the CFCS reports assigned to me yesterday. It has been a long and tedious task, going through one report after another, trying hard to ignore the many badly written sentences and paragraphs. To their credit, some students did a remarkable job writing it up, even with mediocre grasp of the English Language.

As if to add to a climatic end, I came across this sentence that absolutely bowled me over in laughter.

In describing the Malay tradition of ‘Potong Jambul’, this was what one student wrote:

‘This is Malay tradition. During this ceremony they will invite religious people to come to their home and read quranic versus together. Then the father will bring the baby and while reading the quran each will take scissors and the baby will be cut. Basically the ceremony is to clean the baby’s hair that grow inside the womb before delivery.’

LOL!!!!!

Flying

Last Saturday, I had the son all to myself today since the wife and daughter have gone to KL for a spot of ‘retail therapy’ and a touch of aesthetic medicine (i.e. to get a mole removed!).

Normally, having the son all to myself would mean I would be pushed to the brink of insanity.

Not that day. That day he was an angel!

I primed him the night before. I told him, “tomorrow, I will take you to a waterfall!”, which got him all excited (and well behaved!)

And so the next morning, I bundled him into the car, and drove him to the Taman Ujong Methodist Church to brief 25 mountain climbers who would be climbing Mount Datuk. I was supposed to lead them up but since I hurt my knee while climbing Mount Nuang last Thursday, I had to excuse myself and instead passed the mantle to MJ (thanks MJ!).

After the briefing, we drove to Rembau where they registered, did some stretching exercises, prayed and started the climb, leaving me and my kid, alone at the base. Ryan had a grand time playing in the stream. After a while, i told him we better head back to Seremban and I promised him I would take him back to the stream in the afternoon when the climbers are due back from the peak.

In the afternoon, I almost didn’t want to go as I got news that most of the climbers have reached base safely but Ryan insisted (and I did promise him!). And so, we went.

I’m glad we did because when we were there, we saw this spectacular sight!

Do you know what this is?

Now click here to watch it fly, and tell me it’s not awesome!!! :)

I was totally mesmerized!
