How to win freebies at conferences
I’m not going to share ALL my ‘techniques’ in winning freebies in medical conference but I will share this one with you.
It’s the penultimate day of the Nephrology Conference (and I, for one, am glad – it’s not fun getting lost in KL traffic on a daily basis -damn those stupid confusing road signs in KL. And yes, I don’t have GPS).
Now where was I?
Oh ya, I just won 2 thumb drives! One is a 2GB drive clad in a nice genuine leather jacket. Ok, so the memory capacity is nothing to shout about, but, DO YOU HAVE IT??? Heh heh!!!
I will tell you how I won the other one. The contest was to see how many words starting with ‘ex’ can one write, you know, words like ‘expel’, ‘explosive’ and ‘excrement’.
There were 54 lines for one to write the answers. I was told the highest number of words that some one has submitted was 96. I took the paper, went to a lunch symposium and later submitted my answers. On the paper were written 250 words starting with ‘ex’.
It’s amazing how many words one can come up with during a long boring lunch talk (truth be told I had some help from a friend with the last 50 words or so).
So the principle is, to win, you have to overwhelm the opponent, not just narrowly but by a WIDE unbeatable margin!
Impossible is nothing!
