How to pronounce HIV

I am sitting in a very interesting lecture right now at the 11th Asian Pacific Congress of Nephrology in KLCC.
The topic is HIV associated nephropathy (HIVAN). The 2 speakers are well known icons in the world of nephrology and HIV, Arthur Cohen and Paul Kimmel.
Unfortunately, the number of people attending this series of talk can be counted on my fingers and toes. Very dismal considering that there are probably 1000 people attending the conference.

Even more tragic was when the chairperson intoduced the topic by pronouncing HIV as ‘Heeve’!!!
Good grief. That’s really sad.
