Confession of an Alcoholic

October 2, 2007 10 comments

I have a confession. I am an alcoholic.

A ‘cutaneous alcoholic’, that is.

And this is the ‘beverage’ that I use, daily, every single time before and after I touch a patient. :-)

I am trying hard to make everyone else ‘cutaneous-alcoholics’ as well but with very little success. People (including doctors) apparently don’t like to wash hands!!!

I blogged about it here yesterday. Apparently in the USA, handwashing is on the decline and what’s worst, men wash their hands much less compared to women (I wonder why?).

I let you in on a little secret.

*whisper* Psst….my colleagues (the male ones) don’t wash their hands much either. How do I know? Well, when I sit on the throne (in the mornings) I can hear people coming into the toilet and the sequence of sound events would go like this:

‘footsteps walking in, toilet door opens (and sometimes not closed), belt buckle being undone, zip unfastened, some more ruffling, then the sound of a jet of urine hitting the urinal/toilet bowl (or a dribble depending on the source’s age and the size of his prostate gland), grunts and groans sometimes, the sound of water running (if Muslim source) signifying the end of the act, sometimes a very audible sigh (of relief) and then, the sound of the zip being fastened followed by the sound of the belt buckle being tightened, the flush being pulled (and frequently NOT pulled), and finally footsteps hastening out of the toilet.’

Which all boils down to: NO HANDWASHING!

Be careful who you shake hands with next time ~ you might end up with E.coli, Candida, Trichomonas, Treponema pallidum etc etc on your palms! Eeeeyeeeeeewwww!
