Rise of the Silver Surfer

Watched the movie with some friends last night. I found it amazingly short (not a challenge to the bladder at all).

This movie has more face shots (meaning we can see the thespians’ pores except for Jessica Alba who only had one pimple outbreak throughout the show). I kinda prefer the first movie where there were more distant shots. Close-up shots kinda take away all the fantasy (and yeah, a pimple can be devastatingly distracting on Jessie’s face).

Most of the actors have put on weight except for The Thing who seem to be much ‘lighter’ in the second movie!

But what about the movie? Well, if you can see past the many cheesy and corny lines, the subzero chemistry between Richard Reeds and Susan Storm and half-witted USA Army Generals; the good old moralistic theme is still there which is:

“To succeed, you must be a team player, AND, the world is still worth saving inspite of  rising prices of teh tarik and roti canai, not-so-SMART flood mitigating tunnel, narrow broadband service, own-foot-loving politicians, leaky roofs and Mat Rempits (now they made a movie on speeding+drifting cars in KL!!! Good grief!)”

The only character I liked in the movie is the Silver Surfer (and he isn’t even real!). I think this CGI character did more action and emoting than all of the others put together and he looked 102% better too. :-)

So, the verdict has to be 5/10 (without the Surfer it would be 2/10).

I can’t wait to see ‘Harry’s Pouty and his Disordered Streamyx’ Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix’!
